Mistake #1: Not being social.
You would think this would be a no brainer but you would be surprised how many small businesses and non-profits are on social media but are not actually social. Social media is a relational platform. It must be relational first and then earn the right to market to them. Social media has to be social! It’s in the name.
Mistake #2: Not having a strategy.
You must have a social media strategy. Not only will it help you with #4 it will also help your business or organization have a consistent message.
Mistake #3: Not providing real content/value.
People are not on social media to be sold. They are on to be social. Make sure that you are very selective of the times you try to sale, most of your time on social media should be spent being social and helpful with relevant content that is beneficial to your audience.
Mistake #4: Not paying attention to your analytics.
Make sure you are examining your analytics to see which posts are getting the best results. How do you know what to post if you don’t track it? The whole reason you are on social media as a business or organization is to engage your audience so make sure you are paying attention to your analytics to see which posts are engaging them.
Mistake #5: Responding Negatively.
No matter if someone is talking smack about your business or posting a negative review of your business or organization, you need to be sure to NEVER respond negatively.
Social media even though it is a great marketing platform is not the end all, be all marketing platform for you and your organization. Secondly, I can’t stress enough that it’s social! We hope that these 5 mistakes will help you as you navigate social media and engage your audience.
